Fashion Trend: Onyx Jewelry

Posted on: Wednesday, December 21, 2011

My awesome cuff bracelet (Aldo), and my vintage feel ring (H&M;).
Black, regardless of the brights that make a cameo every season (Hi Orange!), reigns queen as “safe” and let’s not kid ourselves, sometimes safe is good. Most would say black is boring, but black is only as boring as the person styling the look! My favorite piece of jewelry right now is Onyx, or black stone jewelry, fake or real. I made my first black jewelry purchase in 2007 and its one of my favorite costume jewelry pieces! A few years after that, I purchased a huge black stone ring from H&M; with a vintage feel. Everyone that looks at my hands points out the ring over any other jewelry item I’m wearing. Not sure I would call this a trend, because I don’t see it phasing out now. Nicole Richie, the Olsen twins and Beyonce sport the black jewelry look often. Here are some awesome options for bringing the look to your wardrobe with a minimal blouse look!

Inspiration Is: Elizabeth Taylor

Posted on: Tuesday, December 20, 2011

It was all in her lovely violet eyes. A child actress & silver screen legend, Elizabeth Taylor will never be forgotten. Regardless of her personal life, (it could read like a film she appeared in), her love of fashion & accessories (accessories meaning jewelry & perfume) fascinated and inspired us.

Elizabeth Taylor was a lover of elaborate statement jewelry. The more size and color, the better! Adding lovely piece of jewelry to a plain LBD can make for a totally different outfit, so make sure your jewelry box has a few statement items. It can save you for a rainy day when you need to recycle last weeks turtleneck sweater. Elizabeth’s collection made a record breaking $116 million at auctions! She collected expensive, luxe jewels for decades, but you can give off the same luxe effect within a very affordable budget!

Hair Diaries with Carcia

Posted on: Monday, December 19, 2011

So I decided to try a cool style with my hair over the weekend. Who isn’t enjoying the stylings of Janelle Monae right now? Her retro-modern take on black natural hair is so inspiring and stylish! Here’s an idea of the “classic” Janelle Monae style…

I didn’t want a complete updo, it was the weekend afterall, so I re-created the same idea in the form of a bun at the back. This isn’t a duplicate of the style at all, just my interpretation of the idea. I’ll do a tutorial of the look soon! This style isn’t only reserved for black girls either! Anyone could re-create this style using certain products and accessories.

She’s Got The Look: Rooney Mara

Posted on: Monday, December 19, 2011

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo star, Rooney Mara doesn’t have crazy tattoos like her alter-ego, Lisbeth Salander. In fact, Rooney is far from it with slick hair and edgy, classic, minimalist style!  The promotional events are all about the movie, but its seems like Rooney is setting up to become a full on fashionista It Girl with the style she’s been pulling off lately.

My Closet: So Don’t Let Go

Posted on: Friday, December 16, 2011

Carcia is wearing vintage faux fur, black button-down by Gap, lace-up boots by Flurries, vintage bracelets.

I love this coat! The best part about the coat was the cost! This warm comfy-ness was only $34.00 CDN. For this ‘on trend’ animal print, and for the length of this coat, that’s a great price! There isn’t a day I don’t wear this and not get complimented. Classic!

She’s Got The Look: Blake Lively

Blake is shining in this lovely Chanel dress (or it might be a 2 piece, not sure). We love the vintage cut to this dress! It reminds us of the 1980′s with the clenched waist, matching belt, narrow skirt, shoulder pads and peplum (ruffle attached to the waist or bodice of a jacket). Her accessories also add more texture. Her jewelry is by Lorraine Schwartz Brown and her watch is by, Chanel of course!
